Step 1: Smelting process

The smelting of high manganese steel is usually carried out in electric furnaces. It is important to obtain pure molten steel to reduce inclusions, as inclusions have a negative impact on the mechanical properties and wear resistance of the steel. During the smelting process, it is critical to ensure a reducing atmosphere to prevent oxidation of manganese.

After adding manganese, the slag should be effectively dephosphorized through the slag making method, and white slag should be made at the end of smelting to ensure good deoxidation. After tapping, the steel should be left to rest properly in the ladle.

Step 2: Casting process

High manganese steel castings mostly use sand molding process. Sand casting is widely used because of its mature technology and high efficiency. Special casting methods are also used, such as investment casting, metal mold casting, etc.

In casting design, the solidification shrinkage and heat dissipation of steel need to be considered. The casting shrinkage is usually 2.5%-2.7%, and the riser diameter should be larger than the hot section diameter to ensure feeding.

Step 3: Heat Treatment

Heat treatment is a key step in improving the performance of cast cylpeb. High manganese steel can obtain a single austenite structure after water toughening treatment, which has excellent toughness and non-magnetic properties.

During the heat treatment process, the heating rate and holding time need to be controlled to ensure uniform heating and proper cooling of the casting, thereby improving its wear resistance and impact toughness.
